Mach Impact used an aggressive front-end trip to notch his 50th career victory in an $8,000 conditioned claiming pace on Monday, Sept. 21 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The journeyman Mach Three-Because Im Kg gelding appeared eager in pursuit of the milestone and his first win in 21 starts this year, blitzing off the gate for James MacDonald and rolling to fractions of :26.4, :54.3 and 1:22.4. With the leader on top by more than three lengths turning for home, Ididitmyshui (Mark MacDonald) looked to spoil the party with a determined rally out of third, but Mach Impact dug in to win by a half-length in 1:52 for trainer Cory Fuller. Keystone Dakota (Tyler Borth) finished third, seven lengths adrift of second.
The 11-year-old Mach Impact has made his living racing mainly in the claiming ranks of Mohawk for the last seven years. He has been claimed 27 times, with $620,000 changing hands for ownership of the gelding. Alec McNabb of Minesing, Ont. has owned Mach Impact, now an earner of $475,760 in 268 starts, since June 2025. The win price on Monday was $6.60.
Four $30,000 divisions for two-year-old pacers marked the conclusion of the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots regular season.
Team McNair — driver Doug and trainer Gregg — took both leg-five divisions for colts and geldings. The Swooper ($7) set the fractions in the first group and finished gamely for a neck win. The son of Cattlewash-Wellwemightaswell broke his maiden in the 1:52.4 effort.
C Script ($2.30) improved to four-for-four in the series with a 1:53 tally in the second split. The Sportswriter-Shark Hanover colt held on by a head after a two-move front-end effort.
We Want It All ($2.40) remained perfect through four starts with a 1:53 victory in the second leg 5B division for fillies. Louis-Philippe Roy steered the daughter of Bulldog Hanover-Beach Gal for trainer Dr. Ian Moore.
The Bulldog Hanover-Aldine Hanover miss Bulldog Belle scored in 1:53.2 in the first filly division for trainer Dominic Gladu. Tyler Borth was in the bike for the 1-1/4-length victory.
The Grassroots finals are set for Oct. 3 at Mohawk.
