Four $20,000 divisions of the first leg of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) stakes for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings were contested Tuesday at Harrington Raceway.
Owner George Teague Jr. had a pair of wins with Henry The Dragon ($3.40, Montrell Teague), a son of Custard The Dragon, in 1:55.3 and Rat Tail ($2.80, Montrell Teague), sired by Barber Pole, in 1:57.1. Both were trained by Clyde Francis, who had three wins on the program. Montrell Teague had five wins on the program, as did driver Victor Kirby who produced a winner in the next DSBF division.
Tina Clark and Brian Clark's Automatic Dragon ($103.80, Kirby) sprung a major upset in his division with a 1:56 triumph for trainer Bobby Clark. Automatic Dragon is an Art Director gelding.
The final DSBF winner of the night was perhaps the most impressive as KDK Standardbreds' Almost Cut My Hair ($7, Kevin Switzer, Jr.) improved to 5-for-5 lifetime with a 1:54 triumph. The Barber Pole gelding set all the fractions from post position seven in registering his fifth straight win for trainer Kevin Switzer.
In the $16,000 overnight feature, the Mares Open, Howard Taylor's Shine N Shimmer ($2.40, Corey Callahan) did not disappoint as the overwhelming favourite with a dominant 1:52.3 win over Sweet Bobbie and Hidden Land. Trained by Mike Hall, it was the seventh win of the season and 35th lifetime for the daughter of American Ideal.
