Not even a first-over trip could derail One More Laugh from entering his name into the harness racing history books on Sunday when he blazed to a jaw-dropping clocking of 1:49.2 in the $600,000 Governor’s Cup
at Harrah’s Chester Racetrack.
With Tim Tetrick at the lines, the Ray Schnittker-trained son of Mcardle-Fancy Creek Funny produced a World Record clocking of 1:49.2 for two-year-old pacing geldings on a five-eighths mile track.
Malicious rolled through panels of :26.4 and :55.4 before being pressed by One More Laugh to the three-quarter pole in 1:22.3. One More Laugh put away Malicious and then fended off a late rush from runner-up Rock N Roll Heaven to win the rich event. Malicious did manage to hold on for the show award in the record-setting affair.
The 1:49.2 performance knocked two seconds off the former World Record of 1:51.2 for two-year-old pacing geldings set by Allamerican Inca (The Meadows – 2004). One More Laugh also holds shares bragging rights with Sportswriter as being the fastest freshmen pacers in the history of the sport. Sportswriter’s 1:49.2 performance was produced in the Metro Pace over Mohawk Racetrack’s seven-eighths mile oval.
Bred by Mathias Meinzinger, who shares ownership on the precocious pacer with Ray Schnittker and Jerry Silva, One More Laugh extended his win streak to six-in-a-row with the victory. It was his seventh career score in just eight assignments. The $300,000 payday bumped his bankroll to $419,856.
