Day rallied off cover to take the $25,000 feature for Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots or Prospect Series starters at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Tuesday, Sept. 2, earning his second straight win in the class.
Starting from the rail, he got away fourth for Louis-Philippe Roy with Call Me Parker (Mario Baillargeon) gunning off the wings to lead in a :28 first quarter, followed by a :57.2 half. Flushed out by Getthegreen (Royer Mayotte) on the final turn, Roy right-lined Day and soon caught the cover of the pocket-popping Mr Pasadena (Doug McNair) as they raced towards three-quarters in 1:26.4.
Mr Pasadena fought past the pacesetter to take over just past the eighth pole, but Day was lurking in his wake, and as Roy pulled him off cover, Day surged past the short-lived leader to win by a length in 1:54.4. Mr Pasadena held second over the charging Alimony Mike (Trevor Henry). The winner returned $5.70.
Day took his third victory of the season in nine starts. The homebred for Determination of Montreal, Que. is now four-for-15 lifetime and has earned $66,803. Luc Blais trains the gelded son of Wheeling N Dealin-On A Sunny Day.
