"This colt trained down like nothing I’ve ever seen. I’ve had some nice ones and I’ve worked for a lot of top guys and sat behind some nice horses and this colt trained down as good as any of them
.
“I didn’t want to tell too many people, but I might have told a couple that this is the best horse I’ve ever trained.”
As O'Brien Award winning writer Dave Briggs has explained in his latest piece for The Guelph Mercury, trainer David Menary -- who provided the above quote regarding Metro Pace starter Prodigal Seelster -- is very high on his pupil that will be shooting for the winner's circle in Saturday's $1 million Metro Pace at Mohawk Racetrack.
Prodigal Seelster will start from Post 3 in the Metro, which has been carded as Race 7 (9:40 p.m.) on the solid 13-dash program. The son of Camluck has been assessed as the slight 3-1 second choice on the morning line and will be driven by Tim Tetrick.
The article shines light on the fact that Menary has had some ups and downs in the industry this year -- especially seeing as though he had the speedy, Ontario-sired Fast Pay pass away on him unexpectedly earlier this year.
Prodigal Seelster has already quadrupled his $60,000 purchase price while as a yearling, as he has earned more than $240,000 in just six starts.

For those who can’t make it to the track on Saturday, The Score Television Network will carry special coverage of both the Metro and Canadian Pacing Derby during a two-hour special from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. (E.T.).
First-race post time for Saturday’s program from Mohawk is 7:30 p.m.
