Sherwin 'Smiley' Edwards, Canada's nominee for the World Amateur Drivers Championship (WADC) in January, will be in the Toronto area from September 23 to 25 and he will be sitting behind his own horses if drawn in an attempt to qualify for WADC by the end of the month

.

Edwards will also drive for local trainers if named. If any trainers have horses at Flamboro Downs, Grand River Raceway or Georgian Downs on the above mentioned dates and are willing to assist Edwards with his endeavours, any and all proceeds earned from his drives will be donated to the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society (OSAS).

Edwards currently sports a handsome .281 driving average with three wins, two seconds and two thirds from 17 seasonal starts.

He finished atop the standings in the C.K.G. Billings Amateur Driving Series for Canadian participants in 2009 and 2010 and is presently No. 1 for Canadian drivers in 2011.

Following a successful trip to Italy in July 2011 where he won an international amateur drivers competition, Edwards appears to be extremely motivated in an attempt to bring the world amateur title to Canada, which has never been done before.

On the heels of Jody Jamieson's world title, a second world title for the country in the same year would be quite the accomplishment for Canadian harness racing.

Standardbred Canada congratulates Edwards on his efforts to put Canadian amateur racing on the world stage.
