Strickland Not Worried About Missed Deadline

Getting slots into racetracks in Ohio is not getting easier; it is getting harder

.

Governor Ted Strickland, who enabled them by executive order, saw yesterday’s deadline for $13 million first installments on licenses pass with only two of the state’s seven tracks -- Northfield Park and Toledo Raceway -- complying.

Strickland shrugged it off, saying, “At this point I am not concerned or worried that there will not be compliance. I feel rather good about the fact that at this point there’s been good faith efforts to comply and to meet their obligations.”

The governor minimized the money, saying Ohio does not need it immediately, and hinted that the $100,000 a day fines for non compliance could be waived or softened.

He said his lottery commission would work with the tracks to resolve the issue, and said he understood why they are having difficulty finding financing.
