Blue Jean Gal made it five consecutive victories and three straight in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots as she won the second $25,000 fifth-leg division for rookie trotting fillies on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Bert Renaud kept the filly marching on the outside through the first quarter in :28 to make the front entering the backstretch. She had the field strung out to the half in :58, and they all continued to chase her through three-quarters in 1:27.4. Blue Jean Gal needed little encouragement from Renaud down the lane to resist the inside challenge of Makina Run For It (J.R. Plante), and she won by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:57. Lily Rein (Chris Christoforou) was third.

Blue Jean Gal has won five races in a row since going off stride in Leg 3A of the Grassroots on Aug. 6, with her most recent three victories all coming in this series. The Julie Walker-trained daughter of Trixton-Pine Knolls has earned $61,000 and won six of eight starts for owner-breeder Leonard Gamble of Etobicoke, Ont. She paid $2.20 to win.

Rare Legacy ($9.20) won the first filly Grassroots split, peeling out of the pocket down the stretch and fighting past pacesetter Karmaisqueen (Jody Jamieson) for a 1:57.3 score by a half-length. James MacDonald steered the Muscle Mass-Lady Talbot miss to victory for owners S&R Racing Stable Inc., Gestions JF Goyette Inc., and SMS Ventures Inc.

Hot Country ($4.10) won his fourth straight Grassroots leg in the first $25,000 division for freshman trotting colts and geldings. MacDonald guided the gelding to the front approaching the half, and the Nick Gallucci-trained son of Muscle Mass-Feel Invincible As went all the way from there to a one-length, 1:56.1 score. He is owned by Millar Farms.

Dream For Peace ($12) took off from third in the stretch and soared past two rivals to take the first male split by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:56.1. Tyler Borth oversaw the Muscle Mass-Dream For Lindy colt’s maiden-breaking victory for trainer Shawn Steacy and owner-breeders Hudson Standardbred Stable Inc. and Bridle Path Stables Ltd.
