Interference at the start of the mile wasn't about to prevent Union Man Hanover from his mission today, and that was to win the Winners Over feature race at Exhibition Park Raceway on Saturday (Sept. 12).
Heading into the first turn in the $1,500 Winners Over Pace, Union Man Hanover (Todd Trites) and Paris Beau (Colin Decourcey) were both sent offstride by the early break of J J Breanne (John Davidson). Trites managed to get Union Man Hanover settled and top of the field. After fractions of :32.2 and 1:02, Trites and Union Man Hanover were confronted by Paris Beau and Decourcey through the 1:32 third station but the challenge was futile as Union Man Hanover's 29-second final quarter was more than enough to hold all rivals at bay to prevail in 2:01.
Owned and trained by Robert MacNeil of Saint John, N.B., 11-year-old Union Man Hanover (Artiscape - Up Front Rose) picked up his third win of the season and 51st lifetime to accompany his $443,000-plus bankroll.
