Wholly Louy was the beneficiary of a hot pace and a heady drive Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway's $50,000 Open Handicap Pace

With Dan Dube deftly doing the honours for trainer Casie Coleman, "Louy"--leaving from post position No. 5 as the tepid 5-2 second choice--found an early seat.
He obviously tipped the maitre d' for a good one, because "Louy" was able to watch the early floor. Slight 5-2 favourite Southwind Tabor (Greg Grismore) parked out Pandoras Sox (Billy Dobson) through quick quarters of :27.1 and :55.3.
Wholly Louy then edged out to catch "Pandora," sizing things up down the backside the second time. Dube sent "Louy" three-wide, up and over the done-for-the-night dueling duo before the 1:24.1 three-quarters.
Wholly Louy owned a length-and-a-three-quarter lead entering the lane, then kept those on his back--Special Report (Larry Stalbaum) and last week's winner, Jeremys Successor (Ryan Anderson)--at bay.
"Louy" beat "Jeremy" by that length-and-three-quarter margin in 1:53.3, with Royal Man (Pat Berry) and 47-1 rank outsider Dark Sign (Cat Manzi) completing the cashers.
For Wholly Louy, a five-year-old Camluck gelding owned by Bob Hamather, he returned $7.60 for his eighth win in 26 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $63.50, the triple returned $281 and the superfecta paid $1,397.
New York Sire Stakes action at Yonkers continues Monday night, with the $210,566 Bronxville Trot (three-year-old colts/geldings). Thursday night finds the $181,368 Lew Barasch Trot (two-year-old colts/geldings) and the $219,654 Jim Crawford Pace (three-year-old colts/geldings).
