American Risk delighted the Risky Bizz Group as the popular pacer tallied his 50th lifetime victory while completing a five-win night for driver David Dowling on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Away from post four, American Risk ($2.40) was never headed as he cut out the fractions of :28.2, :58.4, and 1:28.3 en route to a commanding 1-3/4-length victory in 1:56.4. Melody Maker (Paul Langille) closed for second over Coasttocoastshark (Brady Sweet).
American Risk has been a perennial powerhouse for the Risky Bizz Group of Truro, N.S. since he arrived on the east coast in 2021. The American Ideal-Kissing Bandit gelding reached 50 wins in his 146th start while increasing his earnings to $148,845. The nine-year-old, trained by George Rennison, is eight-for-16 this season with seven wins in the Truro Raceway Winners Over.
Dowling was in the winner's circle early when Starshipzodiac ($9.60) got up late to win the opener in 1:56.4 for trainer Robert Williams. The driver then sent maiden-breaker Twomacsonemoon ($2.10) down the road in the fourth race in 1:59.2 for Garnet Arnold. Dowling controlled Race 9 — the Happy Retirement Plain Jane Pace — with Mcland ($7.60) in 1:57.1 for Chris Davies. In Race 10, Dowling and Dont Come Lookin ($6.90) were promoted to first after Saulsbrook Bolt (Sweet) was placed second for interference. The 1:57.4 win capped a double for the Davies stable. Dowling ended the night as he won the 14th-race finale with American Risk.
With the five victories, Dowling took the sole lead in the drivers' standings. He was tied with Corey MacPherson to start the night but now leads by four with 42 total wins. Dowling, a resident of Stratford, P.E.I., has racked up 92 tallies across all tracks this season and boasts a 19.3 per cent win rate.
Wind Blown was iron-tough in the stretch in the featured $5,000 Preferred 2 Pace after fronting every call for Langille. He put the Mach Three-Wind Warning gelding on the point and never looked back through :28, :56.4, and 1:26.2 fractions. Wind Blown was beset by Mantario (Dowling) at the rail and House Edge Hanover (Brodie MacPhee) on the outside down the lane, but he dug in to win by a quarter-length in 1:54.3. Mantario was a narrow second over House Edge Hanover.
Wind Blown is two-for-two at Summerside since returning to Prince Edward Island from Woodbine Mohawk Park. The eight-year-old gelding has now earned $377,419 and won 35 times in 150 career outings. He is trained by Phil Sizer for owners Douglas Polley Jr. and Douglas Polley Sr. of Amherst, N.S.
It was a strong evening for the Tyne Valley, P.E.I. operation of Greg MacInnis, who authored a training double. Longshot sophomore filly Anniemosity ($34) never flinched on the engine to take the third race in 1:58.1. MacInnis completed the double when three-year-old Arthur Idlam ($7.30) dug in to take Race 12 in 1:56.3 with a brave wire-to-wire effort. Both winners were driven by Ryan Desroche.
Adam Merner turned in a driving quadruple. His winners were Graceful Moment ($4) in the second race, Brigus ($4.60) in the sixth race, Harlequin Romance ($2.50) in the eighth race, Doc Awesome ($15.60) in the 13th.
