If you were under the impression that the Legends Day drivers merely engage the crowd, sign autographs and go through the motions out on the racetrack, John Campbell would like to set you straight
.
"I can't speak for anybody else, but I know I want to win it (the $20,000 Legends Day Trot) every [time]," Campbell told Chris Hickey of the Woodbine Entertainment Group.
"I think everybody does. It's just a special day, but when you turn behind the gate you are trying to win --- you are not going up there to finish second. It's all or nothing, and I think everyone feels the same."
Clinton Raceway is pulling out all the stops for Legends Day, Sunday, September 4.
"It’s a great event. First of all, it gives back to the community. It is great that the slots at the racetracks are giving back to the community in an effort like this every couple of years," Campbell said.
"It's fun for me to participate. On a personal level, I get to see a lot of family every two years and a lot of people that I don't get to see normally --- a lot of people that I raced against when I was starting out in London. It's such a hotbed for harness racing. There are people that [I] just wouldn't be able to see or enjoy if it weren't for Legends Day."
Clinton's 15-dash Sunday card will kick off at 1:30 p.m. The Legends Day Trot has been carded as Race 10 and holds an estimated post time of 3:50 p.m.
