War Dancer put forth another fabulous wire-to-wire performance to win the lone $13,300 Nova Scotia Series Stake division for three-year-old pacing colts on
Sunday afternoon at Inverness Raceway.
With trainer/driver Mike Stevenson in tow, the Western Paradise-Temples May Day gelding toured the Inverness half-miler flashing panels of :29, :59.2 and 1:29.4 all the while extending his lead to four and a half lengths. War Dancer tripped the timer in 1:58.2 to score his ninth win of the year in 11 starts and bump his bankroll to $38,217.
Owners Boyd Macdonald Prodce Ltd. of Crapaud, Daniel Ross of Belfast, P.E.I. and Charles Seymour of Fredericton, N.B. purchased War Dancer for $18,000 as a yearling at the Truro Select Sale.
Power Surge (Emmons Ralph MacKay) was the runner-up after recovering from an interference break and Outstanding Putnam (Shawn MacLennan) completed the triactor.
Cruisinart went straight to the front from Post 2 in the $2,000 Christine Deagle Memorial Invitational Pace for driver Keith Dicks and the son of Real Artist-Yieldtotheprincess wired the field in 1:57.4. Lexus Bandito (Joseph Campbell) finished five and a half lengths behind in second and Victory George (Redmond Doucet) rounded out the top three.
Myles Heffernan trains six-year-old gelding, who won for the third time in seven start this year for owner Johnny Heffernan of Reserve Mines, N.S. Cruisinart notched his 12th lifetime score and pushed his earnings to $77,341.
In the $900 Open Pace, Wood Island converted a pocket trip into a 1:59 victory with Redmond Doucet in the sulky. Owned by trainer Francis MacDonald and Therese MacDonald of Inverness, the eight-year-old old Island Fantasy-Live Wood mare prevailed by four lengths over Milliondollarjen (Clare MacDonald) and D J Mattava (Alex MacDonald). His second win in five tries this year and 23rd of his career bumped his bankroll to $63,059.
