Big Day For Brickell, King

The Wayne County Fairgrounds in Honesdale hosted sophomores in stake action on the northeastern Pennsylvania half-miler.

Dave Brickell drove four winners on the nine-race card, while trainer Syl King sent out three victors.

The day kicked off with a pair of $5,700 PA Sire Stake filly trotting events, with victories earned by Erin Kristen (Chip Chip Hooray) and Diary Hanover (Cantab Hall).

Erin Kristen trotted in 2:06.4 for driver Brickell. Bill Kirwan owns the filly, while John McMullen trains. Diary Hanover, trained by King for owner Mahlon Martin, scored in 2:10.4, also with Brickell at the lines.

In the first $5,700 colt trot, Bob And Bobby was a 2:09.3 winner for trainer/driver Bill Daugherty. Susan Daugherty owns the Andover Hall gelding.

The second division gave Brickell his third winning drive of the day, as owner/trainer King sent the Tom Ridge gelding, Radical Ridge, to the gate. The winning time was 2:09.1.

In three-year-old filly pacing stake action, Kaitlin Kir was a winner for the Kirwan/McMullen team, this time with Wayne Long at the lines. Kaitlin Kir, by No Pan Intended, paced in 2:04.

The second $5,860 division was won by Roger Hammer and Paints Hall, a daughter of Blissfull Hall. Hammer trains and was in the bike for the 2:04.2 victory.

Hammer also won the day’s richest race, the $11,335 sophomore colt pace. Nucular Enemy (Nuclear Breeze) paced home in 2:02 for the win.

In the lone division of the Quaker Stake for three-year-old pacers, Caribe was a 2:06.2 winner for owner/trainer Brickell. It also was his fourth winning drive of the day. In the Quaker Trot, The Final Frontier, owned and trained by King, trotted in 2:09 for the win. Wayne Long drove the Andover Hall gelding.

In overnight action, David Yarock’s John Michael was a 2:08 winner in the Free For All Trot. Jim Doherty, Jr. trains and was in the bike.

Action continues at Honesdale on Wednesday, with post time set for 2 p.m. The PA Fair Circuit also advises horsemen that Thursday and Friday races at the Greene County Fair in Waynesburg will begin at 10 a.m. The start time was incorrectly listed in the Fair Guide.
