WEG Gets Rezoning

Woodbine Entertainment Group’s plan for rezoning at its Mohawk Racetrack site in Campbellville, Ont. has taken another step in the planning process after a compensation plan was approved by the Ontario Municipal Board with support from the Town of Milton

at a brief hearing recently.

According to the Canadian Champion, WEG will have to pay $335,000, or $5,000 per acre, to Conservation Halton (CH) for the planned removal of 67 acres of upland hardwood forest at Mohawk.

The compensation agreement was one of the conditions imposed on WEG by the Town in exchange for rezoning the racetrack operator’s 434 acres of land to allow for an 18-hole golf course, driving range and a 10-storey, 196-room hotel.

The Town had already approved an official plan amendment last year, endorsed by Halton Region in November, paving the way for WEG’s development proposal.

WEG has set no timelines on when it plans to move forward with its development.
