According to Fastracks, the Woodbine Entertainment Group inter-office newsletter, on October 27, 2008 the Region of Halton approved the Town of Milton’s Local Official Plan Amendment (OPA), dated February 26, 2008, which permits the development of an 18-hole golf course at Mohawk.
Halton’s decision was subject to a 20-day appeal period, which expired on November 17, 2008. As no appeals had been received by that date, Milton’s OPA passed into law. This decision is extremely important as it represents the first stage in obtaining the approvals required for the hotel, conference centre and golf course development to proceed.
The OPA was passed after extensive negotiations had been concluded with Halton which resulted in WEG signing a wellhead protection agreement with the Region. Under the terms of the agreement, WEG is responsible for any impact which might occur to quantity and quality of a neighbour’s well if such impact has resulted from the development.
The agreement requires that local wells, within a defined neighborhood area, be continually monitored by WEG once construction commences.
Good progress continues in satisfying the remaining environmental, archaeological and
other conditions set by Milton for its approval of the rezoning.
