Adios Pick, Wild Rose At Grande Prairie

This Saturday nearly $100,000 in purses will be up for grabs at Grande Prairie as Alberta’s top three-year-old pacing colts and fillies face off in the Adios Pick and Wild Rose divisions

In the first of three $16,666 Adios Pick divisions (Race 1) trainer/driver Gerry Hudon will send out Camblazer, the 2-1 favourite in the morning line, from Post 3. The homebred Camcracker-Squeaker Hanover colt, who is owned by Bill Boden of Vancouver, B.C., has won four times this year in nine starts and has yet to finish out of the money.

Track record co-holder Wrangler Hitech will start from Post 2 in the second division (Race 4) for trainer/driver Keith Clark, who co-owns with Robert Jones, of Slave Lake and Peter Giannakopoulos of Edmonton, Atla. The 1-2 favourite, who has won eight of his 12 starts this year, recently set the 1:55.4 track record for sophomore colts and geldings on July 11, which was matched by Sixdaysontheroad, the 9-5 favourite in the third division (Race 8), on August 1. Leaving from Post 6, Sixdaysontheroad will attempt to keep his perfect five-for-five 2009 record untarnished. Trainer Ron Graham will drive for owner Walter Moroz of Edmonton, Atla.

In the first $16,666 Wild Rose division (Race 2), Arctic Flame has been designated the 5-2 favourite for the tandem of driver Brandon Campbell and trainer Harold Haining. The winner of six races in 13 starts this year will leave from the rail for owners Ralph McNalley of Sherwood Park and Terry Nowicki of Edmonton, Alta.

Lynettes Legacy, the track record holder for sophomore fillies, will headline the second split (Race 5) for trainer Travis Tracey. Owned by the Riverside Stables of Cochrane, Alta., the homebred Aces N Sevens – Go Go Lynette miss has been established as the 2-1 favourite and will start from Post 1 with John Chappell in the sulky. The winner of four races in nine outings this season set the 1:57.2 track record on June 27.

Jamie Gray’s Cuzzin Mimi is the 2-1 morning line favourite in the final filly division (Race 9) and will start from Post 5. In five starts this year, Cuzzin Mimi has won three times and has yet to finish off the board for Gray and co-owners Stanley Blustein of Edmonton and Shawn Blustein of Sherwood Park, Alta.

First post is 1 p.m. with a special two-race card beginning at 12:20 p.m.

For those who cannot make it out to Grande Prairie on Saturday, a live telecast of the final Adios Pick and Wild Rose divisions (Races 8 and 9) will air on CTV from 3-4 p.m.
