With a :25.2 closing kick in his career debut, two-year-old pacing colt Remember The Alamo prevailed in a photo finish in the $20,000 second leg of the Dream Maker Series on Friday night (Aug. 4) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
After following back in fifth through a contested :26.2 opening quarter and middle splits of :55.3 and 1:24.1, Remember The Alamo and driver Doug McNair were 9-1/2 lengths behind leader Supplemental Fee (Trevor Henry) at the third quarter pole, but made up all that ground with a wicked burst of speed at the end to prevail by a nose in 1:51.2. Supplemental Fee held on for second with Mirage Hanover (Bob McClure), the heavy favourite coming off an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold win, finishing a neck back in the photo finish and Cupid Shuffle (Louis-Philippe Roy) right there between foes in fourth. Remember The Alamo returned $26.80 for the 12-1 upset.
Tony Alagna trains the Captaintreacherous-Ameraway colt, whose dam is a half sister to Western Fame ($2,002,788) and this season's star sophomore filly Sylvia Hanover ($1,237,875). Bred by Hanover Shoe Farms, Remember The Alamo was a $300,000 yearling purchase from the Harrisburg Sale by Riverview Racing, Marvin And Lynn Katz and Remember The Alamo Racing.
