Irish Ray turned his career into a perfect 17 during Lady Slipper Stakes action on Thursday (Aug. 31) evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Marc Campbell was in the seat for the 17-length romp in 2:02 in his $9,950 Lady Slipper division for three-year-old trotting colts. Campbell trains the undefeated son of Muscle Through It for owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston, P.E.I. Irish Ray paid $2.10 to win.
Dynamical Tad captured the other $9,950 three-year-old trot division in 2:04.2 in line to Kenny Arsenault for owners Bill Kinney and Gary Ford. Vaughan Doyle trains the son of Tad The Stud.
Getting Salty was victorious in her $9,950 Lady Slipper three-year-old trotting filly division, front-ending to a 2:03 victory for trainer-driver Campbell and owner Blayne White.
Freshman trotter Oceanview Daisy bested her rivals in a $14,450 Lady Slipper two-year-old trot filly division with a 2:04.2 clocking from the Jeff Holmes stable. Ken Murphy supplied the winning steer for owner Hardcore Racing of Belfast, P.E.I.
The lone $14,450 Lady Slipper two-year-old trotting colt division had Rocket Blast land on top with Corey MacPherson in the seat for owner-trainer Carl Bagnall in 2:04.4.
The $2,200 D & G Younker Memorial Trot had Glider Man take a pocket ride to victory in 2:00 with Jason Hughes holding the lines for trainer Jennifer Doyle, who had a training double on the card.
Jessiejesorjessica won the $3,100 Open Trot in 1:59 with David Dowling in the bike for Doyle.
The $3,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 1 was won gate-to-wire by Acefortyfour Dome and trainer-driver Jason Hughes in 1:55.2.
Dollys Sky won the $3,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 with trainer Kyle Desroche in the bike as they stopped the timer in 1:58.
Driver Gilles Barrieau celebrated four wins on the night while trainer Ron Matheson also bagged a grand slam from his Charlottetown stable.
Total handle on the card was $134,518.
Live racing continues Saturday (Sept. 2) evening at 6 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown and Monday (Sept. 4) afternoon at 1 p.m. for a special Labour Day Program at Red Shores Summerside.
