A hometown favourite defeated the heavy betting choice at a big price in the $525,000 Canadian Pacing Derby final on Saturday, Aug. 31, which ushered the three-week long Grand Circuit stint at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The $600,000 Maple Leaf Trot played co-feature to the "Pacing Derby" along with the frosh pacing colts, who contested in three splits for the $220,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold. Three-year-old pacing colts also competed in a $171,503 dash for the Simcoe Stakes.
