Rogers Celebrates 1,000th Career Driving Win

Getting up in the final strides in the Sunday, Aug. 3 afternoon feature, pacer Rose Run X Con gave former dash title winner Norris Rogers a milestone moment at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

In the $5,000 Preferred, heavily backed All Bets On Tex (Adam Merner) went to the lead in :26.4 then tripped the half in :55.2. Brookdale Johnny (Paul Langille) then went first-over with eventual winner Rose Run X Con second-over at the three-quarters in 1:25.1. Rose Run X Con then fanned wide to mow down his rivals in 1:55.1 to give Rogers the 1,000th win of his driving career. Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) shot through the passing lane from the pocket to finish second over Brookdale Johnny.

Nicholas Oakes trains Rose Run X Con, a five-year-old McArdle-Stirling Delilah gelding with wins in four of his last six starts for owner J D Racing of Cornwall, P.E.I. Rose Run X Con paid $18.60 at 8-1 odds.

Rogers, who won the driving title five times in the late 1990s, scored win 999 earlier in the day with Baby Step Back ($2.60) in 1:57.1 for trainer Ricky Armstrong.

Jaycob Sweet had a double as a trainer/driver aboard Hawkish Deo ($10.80) in 1:58.1 and Freemans Legacy ($27.20) in 1:57. 

Brady Sweet tripled on the day with Princess Halo ($2.70) in 1:57.4 and Nofool Tobago ($5) in 1:59, both for trainer Garth Cole, and Silver Spirit ($8.90) in 1:56.3 for trainer Tammy Collings. 

Ken Murphy also scored three wins with Sourpuss Sarah ($8.90) from the Ryan Doucette barn in a 2:02.3 clocking, Mattnificent Rose ($6.50) in 2:00.2 from the Joe Baxter barn and Woodmere Ideal Art ($3.90) for trainer Sifroi Melanson in 1:56.3.

Live harness racing continues on Thursday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. (ADT) at Red Shores Charlottetown.
