Stirling Cadet has been the most consistent force this year in the Open Trot at Saratoga Casino Hotel, and on Wednesday he recorded his fourth Open victory of the season.
The Jackie Rousse-trained five-year-old was assigned post position eight in the $15,000 feature, and while he left a bit at the start the razor sharp high stepper had a lot to do in the second half of the mile. Stirling Cadet moved third over and fanned to the far outside around the final turn before charging home to win in 1:55.1. Boli (Wally Hennessey) was the runner up in the feature for the fifth consecutive time while Cashahallic (Mark Beckwith) earned the show spot.
Frank Coppola, Jr. piloted Stirling Cadet to his sixth win of the season and fourth in the local Open in the 2016 campaign.
Stirling Cadet, a son of Conway Hall, was the race’s 9-5 betting favourite and paid $5.90 to win.
Stirling Cadet, who moved his lifetime earnings to over the $200,000 mark with the Wednesday win, has now hit the board in nine consecutive tries in the local Open.
Live racing continues on Thursday night at Saratoga with first post time set for 7:05 p.m.
