Blue Jean Gal clocked a lifetime-best mile as she dominated the fastest of three $25,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Leg 3B divisions at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, Aug. 28.
She was second heading into the first turn behind longshot Canukeepasecret (Travis Cullen), who led to the quarter in :28 before releasing Social Wizard (Tyler Borth). As soon as that one settled, Bert Renaud sent Blue Jean Gal on the march, and she glided to the front before the half in :56.3.
Blue Jean Gal slowed things down to three-quarters in 1:26.3 before taking off again down the stretch, powering clear by 4-3/4 lengths and stopping the clock in 1:55.2. Social Wizard finished second over Canukeepasecret. The winner returned $3.30.
Blue Jean Gal, a daughter of Trixton-Pine Knolls, has lowered her mark with three straight victories in as many weeks. The Julie Walker trainee is now four-for-six with $36,000 in earnings for owner/breeder Len Gamble of Etobicoke, Ont.
Makina Run For It captured the first split in wire-to-wire fashion, holding off challengers to either side of her down the lane to win in 1:57.2. Tyler Jones took the lines of the Muscle Mass-Sheguindah filly for trainer Alan Fair and owner Elizabeth Fair.
Greek Manalishi, one of three horses left in contention after several early breaks, powered past her two remaining rivals to win the final division in 1:58.3 for trainer-driver Natasha Day. The daughter of Green Manalishi S-Greek Goddess was making her debut for owner Doug Millard.
