For the third Sunday in a row, a new track record was set at Leamington Raceway, with this week's speedy mile courtesy of Lady Natasha.
Craig Turner's homebred Lady Natasha lowered the track record for older pacing mares by one-fifth of a second when she toured the half-mile oval in 1:56.3 in rein to Tyler Borth. The four-year-old daughter of Sportswriter-Maddam Luck is trained by Gord McDonnell.
Borth and McDonnell were both a part of the former record that was set in 2019 by Tobins Terror.
Lady Natasha led the field of seven in the second race through fractions of :27.2, :57 and 1:28 before drawing off by 3-1/4 lengths with a :28.3 final quarter to close out the record mile. She paid $7.30 to win as the 5-2 favourite, with second choice Sports Icon following in second and Faithfuls Nola finishing third.
Lady Natasha earned her first victory of the year from six starts and now has three career wins and $42,755 in purse earnings.
Another star on the Sunday card was 10-year-old pacing gelding Shootinforthestars ($3.50), who earned his seventh straight victory for trainer/driver Tyler Nostadt. This time out, the son of Sand Shooter prevailed in 1:59 flat by a half-length ahead of Windsong Napoleon and Terra Cotta Lad in a $7,000 claiming pace. Shootinforthestars' win streak began in July and extends across the raceways at Dresden, Clinton and Leamington for owner Blueshoe Investments.
