Hammer Puts On Clinic At PA Fair

Roger Hammer had the hot hand on the Pennsylvania Fair Circuit on Wednesday, driving five winners on an eight-race card at the Erie County Fair in Wattsburg.

The Dunn Stable and trainer Boots Dunn dominated the day’s first two races, PA Sire Stakes for sophomore trotters. In the $11,265 colt trot, Redder Than Red (SJs Caviar) won in 2:09.2 with Chris Shaw at the lines. Stablemate Trustworthy Kid, driven by Hammer, settled for second.

In the $11,285 filly trot, Barefoot Brook (Cantab Hall) scored in 2:13 with Hammer in the bike.

Hammer then swept the day’s remaining Sire Stake, all with horses that he owns and trains.

In the colt pace, Nucular Enemy (Nuclear Breeze) won in 2:03, while Nate Breeze, also by Nuclear Breeze, was a 2:07 winner.

In filly pacing action, Paints Hall (Blissfull Hall) won in 2:05.1, while stablemate Shootoutthelights (Dragon Again) was a 2:07.3 winner.

Driver Aaron Johnston captured the day’s other two events, both Quaker Stakes. In the Quaker trot, Try My Way was a winner in 2:12.1. Aaron Johnston trains and co-owns with his brother, Shawn. In the Quaker Pace, Dealer Lauxmont was a 2:14.1 winner. Richard Williams owns the Arts Card Trick gelding, while Ted Williams trains.

In Indiana County, a three-day meet wrapped up with four Quaker Stakes. In the two-year-old Quaker Trot, Easter Leggs scored in 2:11.2 for driver Brady Brown. Laura Oldin and Bill Altmeyer own the Malabar Millennium filly, while Terry Altmeyer trains.

In the freshman Quaker Pace, Gingerbread Rock became a three-time winner on the season for driver David Simms. The I Am A Fool filly, owned by Rich Gillock and Paula Sokol, is trained by Mike Gillock. The winning time was 2:05, with a last half in 1:00.4.

Royal Sun Farms’ Gomer then captured the Quaker three-year-old trot, crossing the wire in 2:11 for trainer/driver Norm Morford. Gomer is a gelded son of Broadway Hall.

In the Quaker Pace, Revere Hanover was a 2:12.4 winner for owner/driver Sherry Libengood. The Mcardle gelding is trained by Kim Good.

The circuit returns to action on Friday at 10 a.m. with two-year-olds facing the starter at the Stoneboro Fairgrounds.
