Mason Breds Sweep Manitoba Stakes

My Friend Don, Miss Tinkerbelle and Heartland Firmway, all bred by Darryl and Sherri Mason, swept a trio of stakes finals at Miami Fair on Saturday afternoon

My Friend Don left from Post 3 and went wire-to-wire to win the $10,632 Golden Boy Final in 2:03.1 for Team Mason. Driver Darryl Mason shares ownership of the Firm Friend-Tomorrows Pride colt with W. Allan Drader of Brookdale, MB while Sherri Mason handles the training duties.

In Tatters (Marc Fillion) rallied off the cover of third place finisher Brians Town (Roland Rey) to place.

My Friend Don, a runner-up in the both opening legs of the Golden Boy to fourth place finisher Kaanabba (Dean Rey), now sports four wins, two seconds and two thirds on his sophomore record with over $20,000 banked.

Miss Tinkerbelle and trainer-driver Richard Remillard advanced first up from fourth at the half and kicked away from the field to win the $11,904 Silk Lace Final by over six lengths in a career-best 2:01.1.

Dougies Deal (Michel Rey) and Some Beach Gal (Dean Rey) rallied from the back of the pack to finish second and third.

Remillard also owns the Firm Friend-Belle Sahbra sophomore filly with Trevor Williams of Winnipeg, MB, Garett Isman of Yorkton, Sask., and Michael Williams of Winnipeg, MB.

Unraced as a two-year-old, Miss Tinkerbelle sports a record reading 2-4-0 in 11 seasonal starts with nearly $14,000 earned. She was also a runner-up in her two previous Silk Lace legs, to Some Beach Gal and fifth place finisher Kinda Special.

Heartland Firmway followed in the hoof prints of the 2010 winner, My Friend Don, as he claimed victory in the $4,280 Juvenile Stake for owner Drader. The Firm Friend-Medway Amluck freshman colt and driver Jacques Lambert converted from the pocket and opened up a five and a half length lead before stopping the clock in a career-best 2:06.1 for trainer Marc Fillion.

The winner's stablemate, Heartlandsugarbabe (Marc Fillion), finished second with Heart For You (Cory Manning) third and breaker Rosey Valentine (Kirk Rogers) rounding out the field.

Now three-for-five in his career, Heartland Firmway has banked over $5,000 in purse earnings.
