Driver Todd Budd made his first pari-mutuel start on Friday night at Grand River Raceway a winning one as he sent the Rene Allard-trained Mr Principal down the road in the fourth race.

Budd, a 24-year-old resident of Dundas, ON, and the popular Mr Principal left from Post 1 and carved out fractions of :28.4, :59.3 and 1:30 en route to a 2:00.3 victory. Bold Barry (Daniel Potvin) finished three-quarters of a length behind with Julaire (Jonathan Drury) third, seven and a half lengths in arrears.

The five-year-old son of Andover Hall-Vote Getter picked up his first win in 16 starts this year for 23-year-old Allard and owner Investissement K F B of Sorel-Tracy, QC.

Allard enjoyed a training triple on the card with Fall In Place (1:57.4) and Maestro Springs (2:02) winning their respective assignments with 21-year-old Travis Henry in the bike. With 135 wins on his record so far this year, Allard leads all Canadian trainers in the win column.
