Century Downs will close out its 2026 harness racing season on Saturday, Aug. 29 featuring a pair of Alberta Sires Stakes finals for three-year-olds and on-track events including Cornstock and the third annual Dachshund Dash.
Century Downs will celebrate the Standardbred season with a family-friendly day of racing, food and community. Post time for Saturday's card is 12:45 p.m. (MDT).
The $53,600 Alberta Marquis final for fillies will go postward in race eight and the $54,200 Alberta Maverick final for colts and geldings will close out the 10-race program.
Terrible Custard (PP9, Mike Hennessy, 3-2) has been delightful for her connections as of late, and brings a three-race win streak into the $53,600 Alberta Marquis final for pacing fillies, carded as the eighth race on Saturday afternoon. The daughter of Custard The Dragon-Remember Terror will have to overcome the second tier start and eight rivals on the gate including Blue Star Strike (PP6, Drew Campbell, 5-2), the winner of the last Alberta Sires Stakes final — the Alberta Diamond on July 18 — from a post nine start. She hasn't won since, with Terrible Custard the best in each of those outings.
While trying to end one three-race win streak, Campbell will look to extend Y V Weller's three-race win streak to four in the $54,500 Alberta Maverick final for male pacers in the Saturday finale. A winner of his Maverick elim in a lifetime best 1:52.4, Y V Weller (Mystery Chase-Dime Hanover) starts from post four on Saturday as the 2-1 morning line choice. He lines up just to the inside of fellow elim winner Ruler Of Dragons (PP5, Phil Giesbrecht, 5-2).

The crowd-favourite Dachshund races will follow the race card at approximately 4:55 p.m. (MDT) with the first-place finishers in each heat taking home prize baskets courtesy of Petland and Airdrie Puppy Pals.
A 50/50 draw will be held in support of Alberta Dachshund Rescue and ARF will be selling mystery pet bags with proceeds supporting that organization. Parachutes For Pets will have its Thrifty Pet Shop pop-up on site.
Special food options will be available throughout the day from a specialty hot dog menu and corn BBQ station.
Guests can enjoy an old-fashioned corn roast with corn-themed games and prizes.
