Following another victory in the $6,950 Winners Over Handicap Trot on Sunday night (August 27), Caulfield is now two-for-two since shipping to Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Trained and driven by Robert Robinson, the Kadabra-Misty Ridge gelding moved to the lead after being parked out from post seven during a contested :28 opening quarter and then carved out middle splits of :57.4 and 1:27.1. Caulfield rebuffed the first-over bid of Ghirardelli Lindy (Richard Simard) and won by two lengths in 1:57.1, with Commissioner Daley (Guy Gagnon) and Jetcrest (Brett MacDonald) following in second and third.
The Rideau newcomer, who won last week's top trot in 1:56.2, recorded his 12th career victory and moved his earnings within a few thousand dollars of the $300,000 mark for the Toronto-based Synerco Ventures Inc.
Following a give-and-go move after a :26.4 first quarter in the co-featured $6,800 Winners Over for pacers, favourite Bestofbest Hanover and trainer/driver/owner Melanie Plourde retook the lead from Stonebridge Beach (Stephane Pouliot) then held him off in the end for the nose decision in 1:52.2. Print Media (Stephane Lareau) finished three lengths behind in third. Bestofbest Hanover, a nine-year-old gelded son of Western Hanover and Bunny Lake, has won two of his last four starts.
