Brookdale Johnny found the wire first in a tightly-contested Tuesday, Aug. 25 feature at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as the Phil Sizer trainee prevailed in the $5,000 top conditioned class in Race 14.

Freemans Legacy (Jaycob Sweet) controlled the early splits of :28 and :57.2 before Doc Awesome (David Dowling) advanced first-over and edged ahead approaching the three-quarters in 1:25.4. Brookdale Johnny, driven by Paul Langille, followed that move before surging past Doc Awesome in the final strides to win by a head in 1:54.2. Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) finished third.

Brookdale Johnny ($5.70) is owned by Doug Polley Jr. and Doug Polley Sr., of Amherst, N.S. The six-year-old Rockin In Heaven-Brookdale Gia gelding won for the third time this year in 12 outings and improved to 27-for-132 lifetime with $181,396 in earnings. He paid $5.70 to win.

Langille recorded three victories on the 15-dash program, beginning with Saulsbrook Fancy ($3.50) in 1:57.4 for trainer Chris MacKay in the opener. He then won with Levi Sonic ($2.80) in a commanding score in 1:56.3 in the 10th for trainer Tammy Collings, and finally Brookdale Johnny.

Jaycob Sweet swept races two through four for his own driving triple. J J Nikki ($17.70) prevailed in 1:57.3 for Sweet’s own stable, followed by Sure Thing Captain ($2.30) in 1:56.2 for trainer Ralph Sweet. Jaycob Sweet completed the natural hat trick in the Walter B. Medich Memorial as Timberlea Lady ($10) tracked down favourite Thinkingofeddie (Brady Sweet) to win in 1:59.1. The reinsman trains the winning mare.

Driver Ken Murphy also visited the winner’s circle three times. Twin Turbo Diesel ($6.50) won the eighth race in 1:57.4 for trainer Joe Baxter, then Murphy scored with Howmac Exclusive ($5.50) in 1:55.1 for trainer Les Waite, and No Money Honey ($4.80) completed the driving triple with a narrow victory in 1:57.1 for trainer Chris Davies.

D A Galloway ($4.20) captured the fifth-race Peter Coughlin Memorial in 2:00.3 for driver Ryan Desroche and trainer Ralph Sweet.

The Bruce Stearns Memorial was contested in Race 6, with Majestic Mason ($5) and driver Darren Crowe controlling every fraction en route to a dominant victory in 1:58.1. Leslie Parker trains the winner.

American Risk ($3.80) delivered the first half of a George Rennison training double with a front-end victory in 1:54.4 in the seventh race, and Abiding Art ($5.40) dominated Race 12 in 1:55.3 for the trainer, both with Dowling at the controls.

Zendayasfancypants ($74.20) was the upset of the night in 2:00.3 in the ninth race for trainer Greg MacInnis and driver Desroche.
