A set of rich NYSS divisions for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings highlighted the Tuesday afternoon program at Monticello Raceway, with Allerage Echo and Crown Point prevailing in their respective assignments.
Allerage Echo established a new track record when he toured the half-mile oval in 1:58.1 for driver Chris Lems. He had the son of Conway Hall-Echonomical parked past the quarter pole in :29 before forging to the front. The gelding then supplied middle panels of :59.1 and 1:29.3 before rocketing home in :28.3 to win by four lengths over Smalltownthrowdown. Third prize was earned by Master Class.
Sent off as the 2-5 favourite, the George Ducharme pupil extended her winning streak to four-in-a-row while pushing her bankroll to $122,687 with the win. The youngster is owned by Kenneth Jacobs of Baldwinsville, NY.
Crown Point celebrated a maiden-breaking victory in his $54,500 assignment. Trained and driven by Dan Daley, the son of Crazed-Tierra enjoyed a ground-saving trip behind the tempo-setting Cupid who supplied fractions of :28.3, :58.3 and 1:28.4. Daley found clearance for his charge in the lane and the trotting only needed a :30-second kicker to win by half a length over Cupid in 1:59. Race favourite Dog Gone Lucky rallied to finish third.
Ann Daley, James Crawford, Richard Lombardo and Gary Green share ownership on the colt who improved his record to 1-1-0 from five tries with the win. The lion’s share of the loot lifted the rookie’s earnings to $47,634.
