Premium Attaction Takes Another Trophy

Alberta's Glamour Boys faced off in their second Alberta Sires Stakes final of the season on Sunday afternoon at Alberta Downs with Premium Attaction taking top honours once again in the $73,000 Marksman event for trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt.

With no eliminations for the Marksman needed, Premium Attaction entered the final without having started in a race since winning the Brad Gunn Stakes just over a month ago.

Hoerdt had him ready to go as he worked to the lead from post five through a :28.1 opening panel and reached the half in :58.1. The Clintons Cigar-Themaneattacktion colt was confronted by Blue Star Admiral and Bill Tainsh Jr. at the 1:26.3 third quarter station, but regained the lead and drew clear with a :26.4 final frame to win in 1:53.2. Play Me Right and Brandon Campbell finished just over a length behind off a three-hole trip while the fast-closing Outlaw Falcon and J.F. Gagne were a close third. Blue Star Admiral held off early leaver Tip Top Tap and Rod Hennessy for fourth.

The reigning divisional champion is now a perfect three-for-three in ABSS action this year after sweeping the elimination and final of the Plainsman in June. The Marksman victory pushed his seasonal earnings over the $100,000 mark while his lifetime bankroll climbed to $187,441. Premium Attaction is owned by Hoert and his partner Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta.

The three-year-old colts and geldings will face off in their next ABSS event, the Maverick leg, which begins with eliminations on Sunday, October 13 at Alberta Downs and the final on Saturday, October 26 at Northlands Park.

In Open action, four-year-old pacer No Fear rallied home from fourth in :27-seconds flat to prevail by two lengths in 1:52 for Brandon and Sanford Campbell. The winning time was just three-fifths of a second off the track record for aged pacers, which was recently set and equalled again by Kg Art Dreamer this month. The Campbell-trained and driven record-holder was also a winner on Sunday's card, earning his fourth consecutive victory, this time in 1:53.
