Back in B.C., trainer/driver Bill Davis dominated the opening preliminary leg of the Mary Murphy Breeders Stakes with three-year-old pacing fillies Shadow Time and Hurts So Bad winning their respective $7,500 divisions early Saturday night at Fraser Downs.

Shadow Time kicked off the card with a wire-to-wire victory in the first stakes elimination. Leaving from post six, the As Promised-Lynerin Hanover filly never wavered through fractions of :28.1, :58.4, and 1:27.1 en route to the career-best 1:57 victory. The 5-2 second choice paid $5.70 to win. Farside Baby (Michael Hennessy) edged out pocket-sitter Yanotherhos (Brad Watt) over a length behind.

Bred by the late Robert Murphy and owned by the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C., Shadow Time made her first start in B.C. a winning one after competing in Alberta. The victory was also her first in six starts this year.

Hurts So Bad recovered from an early miscue to win her elimination by a head in 1:58.4 over Tu Die For (Glenn White). Favourite Judys Lass (Jim Marino), who took over command past the :29.1 first quarter and carved out middle splits of :57.3 and 1:27.4, finished one and half lengths behind in third. The 5-2 second choice paid $7 to win.

The Power Of Art-Scruffian filly is owned and bred by the J J J Stables and earned her first win in nine seasonal starts.

Davis ended the 10-race card with a training-driving triple.

The second preliminary round of the B.C. Breeders Stakes for sophomore fillies will be held next Saturday, August 31, followed by two more events on Friday, October 18 and Sunday, November 3 before the finals take place on Monday, November 11.
