This week's Rewind is the familiar Picture Parade format seen each month. This time around it has a central theme which is connected to an upcoming evening of racing at Woodbine Mohawk Park. On August 31st the track will hold this year's renewal of two of the sport's oldest races to be held on Canadian soil. On the pacing side, the Canadian Pacing Derby will continue its annual presentation. This famous race dates all the way back to 1936. On the trotting side, the Maple Leaf Trot which was first held in 1950 will also be featured. That's roughly 150 years of history, give or take a few years when these races were not held.
Each picture will feature a past winner of one of these events, with five from each gait presented. Stay tuned as a similar presentation will appear as a future Rewind. The task at hand is to name the horse, the driver or any other aspect of the picture that you recognize.
Note : Minimal clues will be given but each photo will include either of the following abbreviations. MLT (Maple Leaf Trot) or CPD (Canadian Pacing Derby) Also some of these photos may not have been taken at either featured event but they are all of a winner of either the Maple Leaf Trot or the Canadian Pacing Derby. A lot of great horses have been winners of these two legendary races.
#1 - Can you identify this MLT winner?
#2 - Can you identify this MLT winner?
#3 - Can you identify this MLT winner? The above picture shows this horse's long-time trainer and driver but he did not drive in the Maple Leaf Trot win(s).
#4 - Can you identify this MLT winner?
#5 - Can you identify this MLT winner?
#6 - Can you identify this CPD winner?
#7 - Can you identify this CPD winner? This is an obvious oldie. The pictured driver was the first to drive a winner in both of this week's featured classics.
#8 - Can you identify this CPD winner and perhaps driver as well as the presenter? Any or all will be acceptable.
#9 - Can you identify this CPD winner?
#10 - Can you identify this CPD winner and maybe driver?

Blast From The Past
Here is a very old photo taken during a "Derby Day" when the race was held at the town of New Hamburg, Ont. The grandstand was always packed and many spectators watched from the infield.
When the Derby was held at the New Hamburg location a local church group put on a very special meal following the races. Many people enjoyed the home cooked foods including a wide variety of home-baked pies. I know of one person who enjoys seeing this picture based on his lifelong "love" of pies. Thanks folks for your answers and kind comments. Glad to hear from John Horchik and his happy memories of Dave Green. I once had a great poster of Bridger and Dave Green but must have lost it.
Also had a nice note from my brother commenting on the pie table shown at New Hamburg. True Story - he was recently a guest at an Amish wedding in Indiana and was served pie (s) as part of the wedding feast.
I am sure he tried several.

#3 - The one person I considered my best friend when I was a kid, a dear trainer of our horses, and once lived on our farm with his beautiful wife. Dave Green and Bridger. I will never forget that Dave had the confidence in me to allow me to train my first horse by myself, even when I didn't have the confidence in myself.
