According to reports, on Tuesday, August 23, officials in Pennsylvania's Lawrence County voted in favour of earmarking $50 million in unsecured funding toward financing for American Harness Tracks' Valley View Downs racino project, which is facing a monetary deadline
.
An article by the Beaver County Times explains that American Harness Tracks has until September 12 to prove to the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission that it has $150 million in funding in place in order for the venture to go forward.
“The action we have taken will enable them to go to larger investors and tell them what the county is doing,” Lawrence County Commissioner Dan Vogler was quoted as saying in the report. “American Harness Tracks indicated that this would be helpful.”
An article by WKBN 27 has cited Vogler as saying that the $50 million investment is not from tax money, but revenue the casino would raise through gaming which would go back to the county.
