Officials with Rosecroft Raceway today announced that the track will be re-opening for simulcasting on Thursday, August 25, and that live harness racing will be returning to the venue this October

.

The last time the five-eighths mile Maryland facility conducted live racing was in 2008.

The track will be offering simulcast wagering on standardbred, thoroughbred and quarter-horse races, something which Penn National Gaming Inc. Vice President of Racing Chris McErlean said is a bit of a shot in the arm for the track's fans and the local economy in terms of impact.

Penn National, the largest pari-mutuel racetrack operator on the continent, purchased the track out of bankruptcy earlier this year.

"We are truly excited to bring this entertainment option back to the racing fans of the Washington, DC metro area. The re-opening of Rosecroft is just the start in bringing jobs and economic activity back to Prince George's County," McErlean said via release.
