A double shot of Preferreds highlighted Monday’s 12-race program at Grand River Raceway, with top honours going to Future Million and Indiana Hall
.
Future Million marched to the lead and successfully chopped out splits of :27, :56.2 and 1:24.1 before using a :29-second closing panel to win the $11,000 Preferred #2 for pacers in 1:53.1 for driver Tony Kerwood. The four-year-old son of Million Dollar Cam-Future Champion held on to win by three-quarters of a length over the pocket-sitting Cigar Hall, with Lookin For A Fight rounding out the top three in the six-horse affair.
Sent off as the 3-2 choice, the OSS graduate clicked in his debut for trainer John Smith, Jr. Don and Kerry Lowes’ homebred won for the third time this season and for the eighth time in his career. He’s quickly closing in on $300,000 in lifetime earnings.
Indiana Hall used the same tactical approach en route to taking home yet another winning effort in the $11,000 Preferred #2 for trotters. Trevor Henry sent the eight-year-old son of Striking Sahbra-Inverlochy through fractions of :28.1, :59.1 and 1:29 before summoning up a :29.2 closing panel from the veteran. That was more than enough to earn him a 1:58.2 score over a first-over Famous Mark and a pocket-sitting Long Ago.
Ian Downey trains the veteran for the S S G Stables of North Boston, NY. The triumph improved the gelding’s 2011 record to 9-5-5 in 24 starts. The 39-time winner has stashed away purse earnings in excess of $666,000.
