Lori Martin of Hanover, Ontario was the ZOOM Challenge winner for July’s 'Game On' Theme.

Lori’s photo captured Sauble Jackson, a 12-year old gelding and driver Garrett Rooney in a qualifying race at Hanover Raceway.

“I love being able to get photos like this one, it shows just how close they actually are in a race, it shows the power and strength of both athletes,” Lori commented.

Thank you to the other finalists:

  • Korina MacLean for her shot of Norm Dunstan training Lexus Helios

  • Kendra Bogle for the shot of Casimir Jitterbug (Tony O’Sullivan driving) and Alsace Hanover (Darryl Langstone driving) at Classy Lane

  • Kyle Gillis for the shot of Ryan Ellis and Grand Ball.

Lori and her father, Larry Yuke, got involved in racing together. When the family moved to Hanover, Larry needed something to occupy his time and started spending time at Hanover Raceway. That led to a yearling purchase by the name of Active Angel and the start of a lifelong passion for harness racing for both Larry and Lori.

After Lori married her husband (Harry), he and Lori’s Dad became partners in several horses and when her Dad was no longer able to train, Harry took over.

Lori, who works as an Educational Assistant for the Bluewater District School Board, and Harry live just outside Hanover on a 28-acre farm where they keep one yearling and a riding horse. Their one racing mare is stabled on track at Hanover. Lori and Harry have been involved in many aspects of the business including owning, training, grooming and breeding and Lori also worked in Hanover’s test barn for a season.
