Lightly raced four-year-old Forty Gs tacked on another Vernon Downs victory to his win streak on Friday, Aug. 1, winning the featured $10,274 conditioned trot for trainer, driver and co-owner Roman Lopez.
Securing the lead from the inside post in a short field scratched down to just four trotters, Forty Gs went straight to the lead and cruised through fractions of :28.1, :58.1 and 1:26.4 before holding off Lous Lancelot (John MacDonald) and Zapaca (Steeven Genois) by less than a length for the 1:56.2 victory. The winning margin of a quarter-length is his shortest yet.
Forty Gs now has eight straight wins, including six this year. Unraced as a two-year-old, he boasts a near-perfect career record of 11 wins and one second-place finish from a dozen starts. Bred by Coyote Wynd Farms of Vancouver, B.C., the son of Muscle Hill out of Sheer Glide is owned by Lopez and partners Mitchell Frair of Vernon, New York and Donna Duer of Bell, Florida. A $40,000 yearling purchase, he hit that mark in earnings with his Friday victory.
Live harness racing returns to Vernon Downs on Saturday, Aug. 2 with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
