Jake MacDonald of London, Ontario, captured this great image of racing action during the 2016 National Driving Championship hosted at The Raceway at the Western Fair District last October.
“Really, the talent is on the other side of the camera,” states MacDonald. "I’ve been lucky enough to photograph Molson Pace night the past few years so I had an idea what locations, angles would work best.
"On this particular photo I wanted to stay low to the ground and highlight the clearance between the track and each of the horse’s legs,” explained MacDonald, who works full time at Western Fair District as their official photographer and graphic designer.
“I started working for Western Fair Association in 2008. At the time I was relatively unfamiliar with the harness racing industry. Over the years I’ve been lucky to learn a little bit more about the industry and witness what makes harness racing a living and breathing community. Today I work closely with our Raceway team to develop creative campaigns and ways to capture the excitement and passion at the races.”
MacDonald is fortunate enough to get to photograph many of the events hosted at The District but the Fair is his favourite. “Whether it’s capturing people’s expressions on the rides, adorable animals or a beautiful sunset over the midway.” He also enjoys travel photography and has been to Italy, France, Spain and Czech Republic.
When Jake isn’t taking photos, he’s working on creative campaigns for Western Fair District’s events that include the Molson Pace, Trackside Music Festival, Wine & Food Show and the Annual Western Fair.
