The four-year-old Chapter Seven gelding Black Tie Bash continues to reign the top class at Rideau Carleton Raceway with the Isabelle Darveau trainee winning on Thursday (Aug. 18) at the $10,500 Preferred Handicap Trot for the fifth time in his last six starts.
Assigned the outermost post, driver Robert Shepherd floated Black Tie Bash off the wings to race fifth while Overserved pushed from the pylons for the lead to a :28 first quarter. Shepherd then got underway off the pegs into a :57.3 half and charged forward to three-quarters in 1:25.3. Black Tie Bash seized the lead coming into the final turn and kept his pursuers at bay to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:54.3. Holdin Aces closed from third over for second while second-over Raising Rusty finished third.
Robert Shepherd owns Black Tie Bash, who is now a winner from 12 races in 51 starts and has accrued $116,508 in earnings. He paid $3.80 to win.
