Clinging to a narrow lead into the stretch, Tiempo Hanover managed to hold control to the finish of the $9,000 Open Pace at Century Downs on Tuesday (Aug. 18).

Trainer-driver Brandon Campbell sent the 8-5 favourite to the top with Retros Mystery settling into the pocket. The six-year-old Western Ideal gelding sped through fractions of :27.3, :55.3 and 1:23.1 facing little challenge. But Retros Mystery mounted a bid out of the pocket coming into the stretch and matched strides with the pacesetter heading for the finish. Tiempo Hanover gained slight separation at the inside, edging to a half-length victory in a 1:52.4 mile over Retros Mystery. Crackle N Burn came first over into the final turn to snag third.

Owned by Dana Shore, Peter Chanak and Jodi Loftus, Tiempo Hanover won his eighth race from 15 starts this season and his 11th from 107 overall, earning $131,135. He paid $5.40 to win.

Mrs Suhwiggins swept out of the pocket in the co-featured $9,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace to win in 1:54.1.

Scardy Cat, sent the 3-2 favourite, cleared control moving to a :27.3 first quarter while driver Brandon Campbell tucked stablemate Mrs Suhwiggins into second. Maid In Alberta angled first over approaching a :56.2 half and loomed closer to the pacesetter moving to three-quarters in 1:24.2 but soon began to tire. Scardy Cat continued to lead into the stretch but gave way when Mrs Suhwiggins dashed out of the pocket, scooting to a two-and-a-half length win while Thats It gave chase in third.

A four-year-old mare by Custard The Dragon, Mrs Suhwiggins won her second race from 13 starts this season and her 11th from 37 overall, earning $233,414. Michael Campbell conditions the $9.30 winner for owner J J J Stables.

Alongside his wins in the featured events, Brandon Campbell collected four training victories and five driving victories on the card. He piloted his pupils Amysterytome ($4.10), Sunshine Boy ($3.90) and Ima Momas Boy ($3.70) to victory.
