Mike Stevenson piloted Lil Miss Abbie to a wire-to-wire score in her $7,220 contest. The freshman daughter of Bo W-Mystery Balance threw down fractions of :31.2, 1:03.3 and 1:35.4 over a track rated “Good-2” before using a :32-second closing panel to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Dusty Red Lane in 2:07.4. Perfect Posture, who was treated to a pocket trip, took home third prize.
Sent off as the 6-5 favourite in the six-filly affair, Lil Miss Abbie now boasts a 3-0-0 record in five starts for owner/trainer Wayne Bell of Belle River, PEI. She has banked in excess of $10,000 to date.
A set of trotting hopples were added to My Daisy Duke in a recent qualifier following a number of breaking episodes without them. They worked in the qualifier and they were just as effective in tonight’s maiden-breaking score. The juvenile daughter of Northern Bailey-My Dusty Lane threw down intervals of :32.4, 1:04 and 1:36.4 for trainer/driver Ronnie Gass before finishing off her foes with a :32.1 closing quarter. She was 2-1/4 lengths better than runner-up Sweetwater Rukkus. It was a five dollar cab ride back to third-place finisher, A V C Miracle.
Jonathan MacDonald of North Wiltshire, PEI bred and owns the youngster, who has manufactured a 1-2-0 record in the first five starts of her career. She has stashed away more than $6,500 in the process.
Five wins in five starts is the record boasted by Maple Leaf Spirit this season thanks to her 2:04.4 tally in the first of the $7,220 assignments for the three-year-old square gaiters. The daughter of Meadowagogo-Maple Leaf Legacy led the field through panels of :30.4, 1:02.3 and 1:34.1 before tacking on a :30.3 closing quarter for good measure. She was three-quarters of a length up on West River Victory at the finish line. It was another eight lengths back to B J High Meadow who was third.
Trainer/driver Ralph Annear bred and shares ownership on the photogenic performer with fellow Montague, PEI resident, Steven Sorrie. She’s put together an impeccable record of 13-6-0 during her 19-race career. Along the way she’s managed to haul in a cash stash in excess of $50,000.
The final division went to The Iceman Aireth, who was the only male stakes winner on the afternoon card. The son of Northern Bailey-Gracie Glide ripped through panels of :31, 1:00.2 and 1:31.4 for trainer/driver Marc Campbell en route to a four-length tally in 2:03.4. Mile Hill Bo was next best, with Rustico Redflame grabbed third prize. Race favourite Waiting On A Woman suffered broken equipment shortly after the start and made a miscue. He ended up being pulled up in what was his second straight defeat following ten consecutive victories.
Greenoaks Farm of Mississauga, ON owns the six-time winner, who has put together a 3-1-0 record from five starts this season after going 3-3-2 in 12 tries during her freshman campaign. It was the second consecutive victory for the career winner of $28,160.
