The third leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes for two-year-old trotting fillies at MGM Northfield Park Sunday night (Aug. 14) produced a first-time winner and a repeat winner. Global Girl broke her maiden while Rose Run Yolanda notched her second OHSS victory.

In the first of two $55,000 divisions, 1-5 favourite Truly Relentless, with Chris Lems, went to the lead covering the first half-mile in fractions of :28.4 and :59.1.  Heading up the backstretch, Global Girl, with Don Irvine Jr., made her move, pulling past Truly Relentless at the three-quarter pole in 1:29.  Global Girl opened up and won easily by two lengths in 1:57.3. Truly Relentless hung on for second with Rose Run Yanae finishing third.

The win was the first of the year for the Global Republic S filly.  Owned by Sue Stockwell and trained by Garry Martin, Global Girl has improved in each leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes, finishing third in the first leg and second in the second leg.  Global Girl has earned $42,300 this year.

In the second division, Swinging Senorita and Hunter Myers went to the lead and held the spot through the first three-quarters (:29.1, :59 and 1:28.4).  Heading into the final turn, Trevor Smith took Rose Run Yolanda, the 3-5 favourite, three-wide and set their sights on Swinging Senorita.  The two fillies battled down the stretch with Rose Run Yolanda hitting the wire first in 1:58.3, winning by a head. Swinging Senorita finished second with Just Like Jessica third.

The win was the third in row for the daughter of Triumphant Caviar.  Rose Run Yolanda won the second leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes on July 28 at Eldorado Scioto Downs and then, one week later, won the $67,000 Ohio State Fair Stakes at Scioto Downs. Owned by Black Magic Racing and trained by Todd Luther, Rose Ron Yolanda has earned $91,000 this year.

Ohio Sires Stakes action continues Monday night at MGM Northfield Park with two divisions of freshman colt trotters.  First race post time is 6 p.m.
