Trot Insider has learned that Rainbow Room, a star two-year-old last season who has only qualified once in 2018, has been on the sidelines due to injury with hopes of a sophomore return.
The Joe Holloway-trained daughter of Somebeachsomewhere sustained a broken coffin bone following a 1:52.1 qualifier at The Meadowlands where she finished second to Kissin In The Sand.
“We qualified her [and] was going to skip a week and qualify at Chester,” Holloway said. “[But when] I was training her, she broke it. We did put a screw in it and it looks good. Hopefully [it’s] another four to six weeks and then she can get back jogging.”

Holloway said he aims to have Rainbow Room ready to race by the end of the year to gauge whether she should return for a full-fledged campaign at four or head to the breeding barn.
“We want to race her and make sure that she’s okay,” Holloway said. “It’s not like we’re shooting for [a comeback] in March just to stake her and find out she’s not. We’ll race her lightly in the Winter [and] probably not catch any of the stakes -- we don’t really want to push her.”
Rainbow Room, out of millionaire Rainbow Blue and a full sister to Somwherovrarainbow (p,4,1:48f; $1,344,856), raced 12 times as a two-year-old, tallying seven wins and finishing second or third in every other outing. Her victories came mainly in the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes, including in the $252,000 Championship, as well as her lifetime mark of 1:51.2 taken at Harrah’s Philadelphia. She also finished second in divisions of the Bluegrass and International Stallion Series at The Red Mile as well as third in the $600,000 Breeders Crown Two-Year-Old Filly Pace at Hoosier Park and the $381,200 Three Diamonds at the Meadowlands.
