Mohawk Racetrack’s Monday, Aug. 19 program is loaded with Ontario Sires Stakes talent as the three-year-old trotting fillies arrive at the Campbellville oval for their fourth Grassroots event and the three-year-old pacing colts square off in their fourth Gold Series test.
Muscle Magic and Twin B Alibi sit atop the three-year-old trotting filly standings with two wins and one second through the first three Grassroots events. Twin B Alibi makes her bid for a second straight victory from Post 6 in the first $18,000 division, with trainer Wayne Henry of Arthur in the Angus Hall filly’s race bike for his partners Daylon Farms Ltd. of Komoka and the Estate of Daniel J. McCann of Parkhill.
Milton resident Mario Baillargeon will pilot Muscle Magic after her second straight win from Post 2 in the tenth race. The Muscle Mass daughter was a commanding four length winner in the Aug. 11 Grassroots event, stopping the Sudbury Downs teletimer at 1:59.4. Ben Baillargeon of Rockwood trains Muscle Mass for his partners Nunzio Vena of Bolton and Santo Vena of Brampton.
Three-year-old pacing colt division leader Mach It So is competing in the Battle of Brandywine in Pennsylvania on Aug. 17, so the colts chasing him in the point standings will be looking to gain some ground in Monday’s event.
Windsong Jack finished second to Mach It So in last weekend’s Mid-Summer Challenge at Mohawk, and the Santanna Blue Chip gelding will be looking to make it a win from Post 5 in the first $105,000 Gold Series division. Billy Davis, Jr. of Cambridge piloted the gelding to the runner-up showing last weekend and will be back in the race bike again Monday for trainer Dave Menary and owners Larry Menary of Cheltenham, Kenneth Ewen of Georgetown, Denis Breton of Welland and Geoffrey Lyons Mound of Burford.
Three of Windsong Jack’s stablemates will also compete in Monday’s Gold Series test. Tarpon Hanover makes his third start in the program from Post 4 in the eleventh race for trainer Dave Menary of Cheltenham and his partners Brad Gray of Dundas, Bruce Norris of Caledon East and Denis Breton of Welland, while Panpero Firpo and Panongahela get Post 4 in the eighth race and Post 7 in the eleventh. The No Pan Intended sons, owned and bred by Peter Pan Stables Inc. of Pepper Pike, OH, are making the leap up to the Gold Series from the Grassroots program.
Mohawk Racetrack’s Monday evening program begins at 7:25 p.m., with the three-year-old trotting fillies battling for Grassroots glory in Races 1, 2, 5, 9, and 10 and the three-year-old pacing colts going for Gold in Races 8 and 11.
