Windemere Skye remained undefeated on Tuesday, Aug. 12 during Old Home Week in Atlantic Sires Stakes (ATSS) action for rookie pacing fillies at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Earl Watts-trained daughter of Somewhere Fancy-Howmac Missy left from the rail and handled all rivals in winning her $15,540 A division in 1:57.2. Marc Campbell rated her to :29.1, :59.3, and 1:29 splits, and the filly cruised to a 2-1/4-length victory over Exhilarating (James MacDonald), with Saulsbrook Desi (Brodie MacPhee) three lengths further adrift in third.
Windemere Skye ($2.10) is perfect in four starts with $18,880 in earnings for owners Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. and Matt Burke of Stratford, P.E.I.
The other $15,540 ATSS A division for two-year-old pacing fillies went to Going For Blood and trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault. She drove on to take command approaching the quarter in :28.2 and went to the half in :58.3 before the favoured Fallon (Adam Merner) flew up to challenge her as they turned for the backstretch. Fallon was asked for all she had, taking a one-length lead at three-quarters in 1:28, but she could not finish off Going For Blood, who fought back on the final turn. Going For Blood put away Fallon at the top of the stretch, then impressively battled on to resist pocket-sitter Woodmere Summer (Paul Langille) by a half-length in 1:58.3. Woodmere Summer finished second, followed by Mysterious Ways (Jason Hughes).
