Redwood On Prairie Lace Win, '09 Season

It was a rare Tuesday night of racing at the Yorkton Exhibition track as the standardbreds made up the card which was postponed due to rain August 7. The night had three feature races on the nine-dash card, and three different

drivers picked up blankets.

Tyler Redwood had the big night in the driver's seat with a hat trick of wins, including the Saskatchewan Standardbred Owners Association Prairie Lace, where he took Get Out Of Town to top spot and the lion's share of the $6,900 purse. Get Out Of Town paced the mile in 2:02.3. Laurie Bell and Way Outa Bounds was second and Power Maid and Glenn LeDrew third.

“That race there was crazy,” said Redwood, adding he knew the seven-horse field was a strong one. “I knew every horse in the race had gate speed.” He added he just wanted to stay in contact with the strong field from his two-hole spot. “I wanted to keep rolling, and keep my position.

“I got away third, or fourth.”

From there Redwood said when LeDrew made a move, he followed, and then had the finish for the win.

Redwood said he had hoped for a good race having had experience with the horse in 2008.

“Me and her got along pretty well last year with five, or six wins,” he said, adding in the Prairie Lace “it worked out very well.”

The race was the biggest purse Redwood has driven a winner in.

It was another step in a very strong season for Redwood who is currently the top winning driver at the Yorkton meet. He added his Universal Driving Rating “is the highest it has ever been in my career.”

Redwood, who proposed in the winner's circle in July, said things are falling into place.

“After the proposal things kind of settled down a bit,” he said, adding he feels the better results are a combination of growing experience, and better horses.

It was also a good night for Invincible Yankee as he topped the Northeastern Seed Feature Race in a time of 2:03.2, with Ryan Grundy in the bike. Kevin Siever and Kalahari Rain was second and Brian Gray had Unda Investigation third.

Grundy said it was a good night for Invincible Yankee.

“He raced really good,” he said, adding the seven-year-old horse was in a class where he could pace to the front. “He's kind of been chasing for a long time.” When that happens “they lose their confidence. If they keep getting beat all the time, they know they are being beat and they lose interest.”

Tuesday Grundy said the horse got into a good position and “kept on rolling” through to the win. “... He raced good today. He tried hard.”

Glenn LeDrew took Kinset Hanover to top spot in the Farrell Agencies Feature Race in a time of 2:04.3, ahead of Redwood and Shyloh Shazam and Kevin Sampson with Malones Woman.

LeDrew said the five-year-old Kinset Hanover has been coming into form.

“She's been racing against some pretty tough horses,” he said, adding as some of those horses moved up a class, the field was more to the mare's level.

“And she had a good post position,” he said. “She got the two-hole.”

From there the race unfolded well for LeDrew.

“I finally got her to the outside, and she raced real good,” he said. “We needed her to race for a quarter-mile and she did that ... The mare really responded well.”
