Trot Insider has learned that British Columbia lost a top mare last week.
Red Star Hannah, a top campaigner at Fraser Downs, passed away on Wednesday, July 3.
From 66 career starts, the five-year-old daughter of As Promised assembled a record of 16 wins, seven second-place finishes and five thirds, good for more than $140,000 in purse earnings.
Bred by the late Robert Murphy of Surrey, BC, Red Star Hannah had taken her career mark of 1:54.2 over the seven-eighths-mile Woodbine Racetrack strip at age four. She went on to hit that mark age at five, but over the five-eighths-mile course at Fraser Downs.
After having won an elimination of the BC Breeders Stakes at age two, 'Hannah' went on to win the BC Breeders Stakes at age three for her trainer, Ray Gemmill, and driver, Tim Brown.
The bay lass went on to win an elimination of the Northlands Filly Stakes at Northlands Park at three and also competed in Ontario, where she found the winner's circle at Woodbine.
