It is not usually news when a trotter posts a qualifying win in 2:02.1. Although, when the horse in question was a $240,000 yearling purchase and the win was its first charted victory, people tend to take a second look.
That was the case Friday morning (July 8) during Mohawk Racetrack’s qualifying session, as the Luc Blais-trained and Sylvain Filion-driven Dream Together hit the wire first in Race 6.
Dream Together is a brown filly by Muscle Hill out of the Andover Hall mare Danae. Dream Together was plucked from the 2015 Lexington Select Sale for almost a quarter-million dollars. Determination, of Montreal, Quebec, holds the filly’s ownership papers.
Filion lined his filly up to Post 4 for the Friday qualifier. The duo were third at the :31.4 opening quarter-mile mark and remained in that position past the half-mile pole (1:02.4) and the three-quarters of a mile stanza, which was clicked off in 1:33.
Filion asked Dream Together in the final quarter and she utilized a :28.1 closing panel to get the job done. The margin of victory was three quarters of a length in the 2:02.1 mile.
The race had started with a short field of five, but it was essentially a three-horse tilt, as a pair of breakers had taken themselves right out of contention off the start.
Dream Together’s dam, Danae, was campaigned by George Teague Jr. She won four of her 21 starts and banked over $531,000 in purses. Dream Together is the fifth foal out of Danae, who has also produced $450,000 earner Dorsay.
